What AZ-104 Is
AZ-104 is the certification exam for the Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate credential. It validates the ability to implement, manage, and monitor an organization's Microsoft Azure environment, including identity, governance, storage, compute, and virtual networking. Passing AZ-104 demonstrates that a candidate can carry out the day-to-day administrative tasks that keep cloud workloads secure, available, and cost-effective.
The exam is role-based rather than product-based. Microsoft designs it around the actual responsibilities of an Azure administrator, so questions are framed as administrative requirements and constraints rather than trivia. A strong candidate can translate a business or operational requirement into the correct Azure resource configuration, and can recognize the right Azure Portal navigation path, Azure PowerShell cmdlet, or Azure CLI command to accomplish a task. This emphasis on doing rather than memorizing is why six months of hands-on experience is recommended: the questions assume the candidate has actually created resource groups, assigned roles, deployed virtual machines, and configured storage and networking, and would struggle to fake that fluency through rote study alone.
